The smell of chocolate chip cookies is domestic. It is the smell of having the time and leisure to mix up a batch of cookie dough or two because you will have eaten the first before it hits the oven. The combination of simple ingredients to make something sweet and delicious is one of the great aspects of human ingenuity, and you wait in anticipation of the cookies. The smell rising from the oven though compounds that anticipation exponentially. It is a smell of many things I enjoy: chocolate, sugar, bread, and heated food. Since they all come at once, all of the triggers of pleasure in my brain are activated at once and it is hard not to simply drool over the oven as I wait. Overcooking the cookies is almost never a problem.
